And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
