And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
