And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
