And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
