And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
