Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
