And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
