And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
