And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 Do not betray me 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 no loyal friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
