And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
