Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
