And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
