Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
