And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 no loyal friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
