And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
