(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
