The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
