The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
