(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
