The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
