The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
