The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
