The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
