The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
