(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
