'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
