The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
