The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
