The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
