Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This has been happening all along. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
