Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
