The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
