(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
