'Aad denied the messengers 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
