(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And orchards and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
