(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
