[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
