Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
