The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
