The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
