(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
