(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
