The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
