The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
