[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
