Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
