'Aad denied the messengers 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
