The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
