Alshu'araa' 7 of 11
(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
