(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
